Why sell or donate our unwanted items!

Most of the people that I know have more things than they need and as one of those people I personally have discovered some ways that have helped me easily not waste my time or energy to liquidate the things that I no longer need, use, or want.  For some of us, it is just a word to our assistant to make things disappear because our time is more valuable than trying to sell our unwanted items to recoup any expenses so we don’t need to think about such things, which also means that we can unintentionally be more wasteful.  The common denominator is money, when we don’t have things around that don’t serve us it allows us to allocate more of our time, energy, and space to what is more important.  To some, recouping these expenses from our unwanted or unused items can really help financially, and to others, is so that we don’t have to think about it that brings us value to focus on what makes us more money.  The bottom line is money hence the article picture.

Since the cost of things are going up I want to share why sell or dontate your unwanted items and a few stratagies to do so.

What each person should do for efficiency and return is all dependant on their own unique circumstances, income, time available, and the value of their items on the market.   For others where it can make a difference starts with being able to let things go.  Letting things go for some is harder than it sounds, meaning that they aren’t willing to let go for a reasonable price or donate it, and that is a problem sooner or later.  Many things that have value but no value to us can actually take away our time, space, and energy tremendously just by owning them.  Things that we own that we have no use for and do not bring us any value in visual appeal, function, or potential monetary gains should be sold or donated unless we have friends or family members who can use them.  In general, we put sentimental values on certain things even when it is just the amount we paid for them; choosing what we value sentimentally is important so that we don’t end up as hoarders who keep things that bring no value to us.  Being able to let things go that don’t bring us value means being able to move forward and we all need to move forward before time moves us forward.

When we sell something that we don’t use or need anymore it does a few things beyond putting some money in our pockets.  The item will most likely go to someone who has a use for it, who would appreciate it more than we do, and that usually gives a good feeling to people who don’t like to be wasteful.  Selling something where it is as is most likely means that the person purchasing it will pick it up where you have it, which can be huge instead of you using your energy or hiring someone to donate it or throw it away unless it is trash.  It can also potentially cause less waste in the world, so there isn’t as much production of new products.  Of course, there are many items that aren’t worth our time to sell but are still functional with low value. Those are best donated to an organization that will either give them to the needy or resells them to people who would use them.  I don’t believe in just giving things to some people, especially someone that didn’t seek out the item that you are giving.  They most likely is only taking it because it is free, there’s a big chance that the person receiving it may not value it as it should be valued and many times turns into waste believe it or not.  Giving someone something that you know they truly want or need is different than giving some stranger something that has monetary value, many times that stranger willing to take the item won’t even sell it to obtain the monetary value. It is not uncommon for the item to be left like trash somewhere or on the side of a person’s home all because they put nothing up for it so it is more likely they’d squandered it. This concept is the same as banks wanting you to have a down payment for purchases to make it so that you have skin in the game so that you won’t want to lose your money and not pay your bank note.  I’m more for helping people who have the will to help themselves so that our efforts can perpetuate and create lasting change.

I’m a serious advocate for recycling the interests’ of goods because it helps people and the sustainability of our environment.  It really helps people who can’t afford something new, to be able to experience something new.  There is an old Chinese saying that goes something like “if you don’t get rid of the old there is no room for the new” pertaining to things, not people, but it does work with girlfriends and boyfriends too I guess.  I do believe that to be true because, simply put, it makes sense physically.  If you have a cup that is filled with coffee, you can’t exactly start drinking tea with the same cup, the concept goes for many things such as your interest, space, and attention.  Selling something to someone at a good price can be as rewarding as helping someone out during a time of need especially if it is something that you can tell that they value or need.  Helping the less fortunate is so much more diverse than just giving people things and helping the homeless.

Think about this the next time you have things that you should get rid of, where you want them to go, and who you want them to go to.  I personally love to share concepts that have synergy and can help people be less wasteful.
